  • DBA Sandwich Company Opens December 30

Great news for Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward residents – DBA Sandwich Company has received all of its permits and will officially open for business this Wednesday, December 30.

Hours for this coming week are Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 from 4:00 to 8:30pm; then Friday, January 1 and Saturday, January 2 from noon to 8:30pm; and Sunday, January 3 from noon to 8pm.
Planned regular hours are Wednesday and Thursdays from 11:30 am to 8:30pm; Friday and Saturday from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm; and Sundays from 11:30am to 8:00pm.

The main focus of DBA Sandwich Company is its takeaway focus, allowing guests to be socially distant and safe. They can pop-in during a lunch break while working from home, walking on the BeltLine for some fresh air, grab their favorite DBA Barbecue comfort eats and head-home. Prices are affordable for today’s economy as well, and work best for folks who want to grab a quick sandwich or salad and a soft drink.
For New Year’s Day, DBA Sandwich Company will offer a special “A Little Luck” with a slider version of a Pork Sandwich and a small side dish consisting of both collards and black eyed peas for $8. Full-size of the sandwich and sides is $14. (see previous email for New Year’s Day “Lots of Luck” promo).

“We opened DBA Barbecue in February 2009, in the height of the recession, and now we’re opening DBA Sandwich Company during a worldwide pandemic. Last year on New Year’s Eve, the entire front of DBA Barbecue fell off into the parking lot, rendering our entrance unusable for several days. A year to-the-day, we’re opening our new restaurant. I guess tough times are kind of our most fortuitous times, and opening DBA Sandwich Company is a nice way to book-end the year,” said owner Matt Coggin.

DBA Sandwich Company is opening in the Irwin Street Market right on the BeltLine in Inman Park. The small takeaway-only restaurant will include DBA Barbecue’s signature and award-winning smoked meats for deli-style sandwiches and sides, including Turkey BLT, Reuben, Pot Roast Hoagie and more. Additional menu items include salads and sides like cole slaw, potato salad, mac & cheese, pimento cheese with “Fire Crackers” and boiled peanuts.

During the closures in April, TAPR refused to allow any client to go without marketing and communications support. Those who were unable to pay didn’t have to go without services, including social media, photography, media relations, crisis communications and more.

Great news coming out of the pandemic – DBA Barbecue has announced it is opening DBA Sandwich Company on November 1 in the Irwin Street Market. The new concept from owner Matt Coggin will be simple, serving delicious signature sandwiches, some soups and salads, and other special menu items, along with non-alcoholic beverages.

“While we are of course known for our barbecue and key menu items at DBA Barbecue. we have had a loyal following for our sandwiches as well, and when an opportunity arose to open a small space to serve our sandwiches, we had to jump on it,” said Coggin. “Our fans and followers have been incredible, especially through the pandemic and closures, and we are so excited to bring even more DBA goodness to guests.”

The menu features 10 sandwiches including the Turkey BLT, a Cuban, a “Pot Roast” sandwich, the Chicken Salad Melt, Pimento Cheese and more, all utilizing DBA’s in-house smoked items and other signature housemade dishes. The menu will feature other famous DBA dishes like their Mac & Cheese and Brunswick Stew. A few salads are also on the menu including the Cobb Salad and Turkey Salad, and a planned daily special taco.

The space is expected to only house three employees, providing safety first for guests and staff alike. There are some communal tables available for seated dining, however the goal of DBA Sandwich Co. rests more on a takeaway model. With more guests working from home in the area and hitting the BeltLine to stretch their legs and grab a bite, the comfort food of DBA Sandwich Co. will fit the safety and cravings of guests.

  • Out Front Theatre Company Announces 2020 Digital Productions

Out Front Theatre Company has announced three streaming digital performances to be held through the end of the year, including “DIVA: Live from Hell” in October, “Bright Colors & Bold Patterns” in November and “The Santa Closet” in December.

“While we are able to host in-person productions right now, we do not feel it is the responsible or safe option for not only our production team and actors, but also our guests,” said Founder and Producing Artistic Director Paul Conroy. “There are two aspects to consider with social distancing. First, backstage with production and having to work with actors, designers and more, it’s physically impossible to social distance and provide a safe space for them. Second, to space the audience out for 6-feet per guest, we would be at one third of our normal capacity. Having a full house is what makes going to the theatre the magical experience it is, but for now we have decided it’s best to offer fully produced theatrical entertainment directly in people’s homes for the foreseeable future.”

All three productions will be streamed online via ticket purchase for $15, and the viewing is available for 72 hours from opening night through the weekend. Guests can purchase the online ticket and enjoy the production at $15 for however many are viewing in their home – allowing for an excellent dollar-for-dollar entertainment option for those watching alone, as a couple, a family or hosting as an intimate viewing party.

Further considering the safety of the actors and production team, all three productions will be 1-person shows only.

“It’s simply the safest option for everyone putting on the shows, especially as we enter the fall/winter and what could be a second wave and further spreading of COVID-19,” said Conroy. “Having a 1-person production guarantees the show will happen for our fans, and no additional actors or staff will be need to be concerned about being in an intimate setting together.”

All three productions will feature performers playing multiple characters, in the same style of Out Front’s previous productions of “Buyer and Cellar” (2018) and “I Am My Own Wife” (2019).

The streaming option also allows these productions to be viewed beyond Atlanta, throughout the Southeast and country. Out Front is the South’s only LGBTQIA+ dedicated theatre, and one of the few in the country. Providing this entertainment for anyone anywhere to view will allow Out Front to reach more audiences, especially those in smaller, more rural parts of the country that do not offer LGBTQIA+ theatre, or theatre in general.

“Offering our unique entertainment and these important productions to anyone beyond Atlanta is something we are very, very excited about as well, because we can find countless more new fans, audiences and supporters,” said Conroy.

For more information about the forthcoming productions, and Out Front Theatre Company, visit www.OutFrontTheatre.org. Tickets will go on-sale on October 1, 2020.
