22 Sep Out Front Theatre Company Announces 2020 Digital Productions
Out Front Theatre Company has announced three streaming digital performances to be held through the end of the year, including “DIVA: Live from Hell” in October, “Bright Colors & Bold Patterns” in November and “The Santa Closet” in December.
“While we are able to host in-person productions right now, we do not feel it is the responsible or safe option for not only our production team and actors, but also our guests,” said Founder and Producing Artistic Director Paul Conroy. “There are two aspects to consider with social distancing. First, backstage with production and having to work with actors, designers and more, it’s physically impossible to social distance and provide a safe space for them. Second, to space the audience out for 6-feet per guest, we would be at one third of our normal capacity. Having a full house is what makes going to the theatre the magical experience it is, but for now we have decided it’s best to offer fully produced theatrical entertainment directly in people’s homes for the foreseeable future.”
All three productions will be streamed online via ticket purchase for $15, and the viewing is available for 72 hours from opening night through the weekend. Guests can purchase the online ticket and enjoy the production at $15 for however many are viewing in their home – allowing for an excellent dollar-for-dollar entertainment option for those watching alone, as a couple, a family or hosting as an intimate viewing party.
Further considering the safety of the actors and production team, all three productions will be 1-person shows only.
“It’s simply the safest option for everyone putting on the shows, especially as we enter the fall/winter and what could be a second wave and further spreading of COVID-19,” said Conroy. “Having a 1-person production guarantees the show will happen for our fans, and no additional actors or staff will be need to be concerned about being in an intimate setting together.”
All three productions will feature performers playing multiple characters, in the same style of Out Front’s previous productions of “Buyer and Cellar” (2018) and “I Am My Own Wife” (2019).
The streaming option also allows these productions to be viewed beyond Atlanta, throughout the Southeast and country. Out Front is the South’s only LGBTQIA+ dedicated theatre, and one of the few in the country. Providing this entertainment for anyone anywhere to view will allow Out Front to reach more audiences, especially those in smaller, more rural parts of the country that do not offer LGBTQIA+ theatre, or theatre in general.
“Offering our unique entertainment and these important productions to anyone beyond Atlanta is something we are very, very excited about as well, because we can find countless more new fans, audiences and supporters,” said Conroy.
